Clinical Trigger Point Therapy:
What can I expect?
Clinical Trigger Point Therapy is a systematic, comprehensive approach to relieving physical pain. The therapy is based on the research of Drs. Janet Travell M.D. and David Simons M.D. and the certification course was developed by Dr. Laura Perry in 2001. Before the massage begins a thorough history of your pain including how long you have had it and where it is located in your body will be taken. Have you had an automobile accident or fall? Trigger points can even form after surgery. Since trigger points often refer pain to other areas in your body (referred pain), work will be done on areas that you may feel aren't affected. When a very painful point in a muscle is found, pressure will be used in short strokes to release the point. Other areas of tight muscle and painful points will be searched for and released. Light stretching and moist heat may also be used.
